Instructions for Your Kindle

You can borrow digital content for your Kindle device with these services, free with your library card.

I want ebooks.

  1. Kindle Fire users only, install these apps: OverDrive and cloudLibrary*
  2. Browse for titles: Ohio Digital Library or Westerville Cloud Library.
  3. Checkout and download books.
  4. If prompted, choose Kindle format. (Kindle Fire users, you also have the option to download ePUB and MP3 format titles via the OverDrive app.)

You can keep books for up to 3 weeks, 10 items at a time per account.

I want magazines. (Kindle Fire only)

  1. Go to RBdigital Magazines.
  2. Create an account.
  3. Check out a magazine.
  4. To install the app, open your Kindle's web browser.
  5. Follow these instructions.
  6. When finished, log in with your new username and password.

Note: the RBdigital app on the Kindle Fire may give a pop-up notice that the app is not working properly. Ignore it. Acknowledge the pop-up and keep working.

Once you've checked out a magazine, you can always find it later in your RBdigital account. There's no wait, no fines and no need to return it.

I want music.

For a 1st generation Kindle, follow these instructions. For the Kindle Fire, follow the instructions below.

  1. On your Kindle Fire, go to Settings.
  2. Enable "Download from unknown sources".
  3. Go to SlideMe.org on your Kindle's web browser.
  4. Search for "freegal music".
  5. Download the app.
  6. To install the app, swipe your finger down from the topmost left-hand corner of the screen (where your name appears), then click on the Freegal installation notice.
  7. Launch the app.
  8. Enter your zip code.
  9. Choose Westerville Public Library.
  10. Enter your library card number.

Alternatively, you can download songs directly from the Freegal Music. Find a song, then select Download Now. A number will appear at the top of your screen. Once the song is downloaded, you can touch it to open it in the Amazon MP3 player.

Once you've downloaded a song, there are no fines and there is no need to return it.
